When I met the lovely Dani for coffee a few weeks before the wedding, the priorities for their wedding were clear. She told me that they are not too concerned with lots of pictures of the two of them. Nor do they need photos of details or decor. “We really just want you to capture people and relationships”.
On the day of the wedding, I could see exactly why. I have never captured a wedding where a sense of community coming together was more evident. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING in this wedding was the result of a labour of love. It was the most special thing to witness.
It was a DIY wedding in every way – friends and family crafted every little bit of beautiful decor, the gorgeous boho dress, the cake, the hair, the makeup, the bouquets… and the list goes on. And in order to have all of the special people in their lives there for the occasion, they kept things really modest and unpretentious. Everything took place at their church (Lucky church-on-main is so trendy – who would guess this cool building is actually a church?), paper table cloths and crayons for guests to doodle, food served on paper plates. I resonate so deeply with this approach!
Dani and Josh, thank you so much for inviting me to capture this special day in your lives. You are both truly beautiful and incredibly inspiring! (And maybe just a little bit nutty also!). Enjoy the pictures :)
